KnowHow-Weather When does the sun & rain come? Different parts of Thailand have rain/dry periods at different times of the year - this depends on distance and influence from the continent and the South China Sea in the north and east, the Gulf of Thailand "locally" in the south, and the Andaman Sea and the Strait of Malacca in the west and south. In Bangkok, the rain is often refreshing and washes away air pollution. In November to March barely a drop, in April a little - but from May to October it is safest to take an umbrella with you out every day. In Phuket & Koh Lanta for example, rain comes every month, but mostly from April to November. In Pattaya similar, but slightly smaller amounts than Phuket/Koh Lanta. | Tue Jan 28 18:20 (id: 661)
KnowHow-Weather 3 seasons, but no winter weather... Climatically, Thailand has three seasons. 1. Summer prevails from mid-February to mid-May. April in particular can be very hot, with temperatures close to 40°, combined with humid air this can be challenging and requires a hydration strategy. 2. The rainy season: From mid-May to mid-October, the southwest monsoon prevails with daily showers of varying intensity. 3. From mid-October to mid-February, winter and the northeast monsoon prevail. If it is below 8°, the Thais consider it VERY cold weather. | Tue Jan 28 18:05 (id: 669)
KnowHow-Find Life's necessities - 45,000 locations... There are about 45,000 7-Elevens in Thailand. And here you can buy most things like food, hygiene items and laundry items, etc. Thais often just say "seven" - and that makes sense as they are open 24/7 - not 0700-2300... Good if you wake up at 0300 when the AC is hacking, want to take a cool night walk and grab a large (hot) Latte on the way (Latte ron jai). | Tue Jan 28 17:46 (id: 675)
KnowHow-Move Routines Train/Sky train/metro The different modes of communication have different names depending on the owner. For example, the green line sky train is called BTS, while the metro is called MRT and the sky train to the airport Airport Link. You buy a ticket OR token in a machine or at the cashier. NOTE when you go IN you just tap the ticket/token at the gate - then KEEP it - and when you go OUT you put the ticket/token in at the gate. The trains run on the left - so it's good to know which direction you're going if you don't know the end stop - to enter tha right stair up to the platform. On BTS you gan buy a chargable "Rabbit card" to avoid ticket queues, on MRT credit card will work. | Tue Jan 28 17:45 (id: 674)
KnowHow-Move New Bkk train lines New train lines are planned in Bangkok. As many of you may know, traffic is often not the best in Bangkok and getting around using the BTS (Sky Train), MRT (Subway), train, boat, or motorcycle taxi (more dangerous) is much faster than by car. Here is an article about the planned expansion of Bangkok's transportation system. https://www.bangkokpost.com/thailand/general/2823181/cabinet-to-see-red-line-extension-plan-soon | Tue Jan 28 17:42 (id: 673)
KnowHow-Move Taxi, this is how it works วัง "wang" = free Front left in the front window means that the taxi is free. This applies regardless of whether the color is green or red on the text. If the sign is off, the taxi is busy. Make sure to get a taxi with a taximeter, usually starting at around 35 baht in Bangkok. If there is a phone number and contact information on the sides of the taxi, it is a good sign of a serious company. If there is a bickering about the price level and taximeter, just get out and take another taxi. | Tue Jan 28 17:41 (id: 672)
KnowHow-RentVehicle Rent a car In Bangkok you can basically only rent a car at Suvarnabhumi and Don Mueang airports. Of course you should have your international driving license ready. Always ask to photograph and film the outside of the car before departure so that you have an overview of all existing defects. NEVER leave your passport when renting if asked, a photo copy is enough. | Tue Jan 28 17:40 (id: 671)
